Watching Tim Lincecum Pitch
If you’re a baseball fan and I’m guessing if you read a blog here at mlblog you are you should take some time this month and watch the Giants play when "Tiny Tim" takes the mound. If he’s not being called little Oswalt or the right handed Sandy Koufax.
He was perfect over the first 3 innings. Delgado hit his first of two in the game off Tim in the 4th. Overall Lincecum pitched 5 shutout innings with 7IP in total, 3er, 3bb and 8K.
Game #52
Willis wins his 7th and Gregg saves his 6th game of the season as the Marlins rally late to beat the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field for the second time in as many games. This late win didn’t come without it’s down moments as Willis served up a home run to both Derrek Lee and Ryan Theriot. After starting the game with 2 hits, Lee cooled off and went 0/3 for the rest of the night. 6 of the 7 hits that Willis let up were extra base hits but the Cubs managed to only score 4 runs, mostly due to bad base running by the Cubs.
Although it was his first error of the season, Hermdia added to the league leading blunders made by the Marlins this year. Ramirez would make another in the 10th.
Sergio Mitre takes on the other new Cubs pitcher, Ted Lilly in Chicago. Game time starts at 9:05AST
Game #45
The Marlin’s lineup beats up on King Cole in the series opener on Tuesday night in Florida. Uggla, Ramirez, Willingham and Wood all double off Hamles who pitched 6 innings giving up 5 earned runs while walking 3 and striking out 8. Lost in the outing is Scott Olsen’s 4th win. Olsen pitched 6 innings allowing 4 hits, 3 walks and 3 earned runs while striking out 6. The story early in the game was Werth hitting a home run in the 1st and a two run homer in the 3rd giving the Phillies a 3 run lead after 3. Late and often the doubles came as the Marlins scored 4 in the sixth. Pinto and Lindstrom would come on to pitch in the 7th and 8th innings to hold the lead before the pen gave way to Gregg for his 4th save of the year. Gregg struck out 1 of the batters he faced and has 27 strikeouts in 27 innings pitched this year. Kevin Gregg has looked stellar in his last few outings as the Marlins’ new closer.

Game #44
Break out those brooms as the Marlins sweep the Devil Rays in Tampa. A game in which they trailed until the 8th showcased a fine pitching duel between James Shields and Sergio Mitre. Carlos Pena started things off with a 2-run home run one batter after Dukes hits a lead off triple.

Shields was dealing early and late. I couldn’t help by say "don’t swing at the change up in the dirt". Too bad James Shields was throwing his curve
ball low as well. His fast balls couldn’t
find the strike zone either yet he struck out 8 in 7 innings of work. Both starters held the opposition to 5 hits each over 7
innings before making way for the pen. Stokes and Camp let up 3 runs and blow the lead for the D-Rays.

Gonzalez went to Matt Lindstrom in the 8th to
hold it for Kevin Gregg in the bottom of the 9th for the save. Lindstrom struck out Dukes swinging, then
throw a 101mph fastball passed Harris. Kevin Gregg looked good to earn his second save of the year.
Next game is Tuesday at home against Philadelphia and Cole Hamels.
All Atlanta in the Night Cap

A
two-run triple by Kelly Johnson made it 11-0 Braves in the 7th. He ended the game with a single short of the
cycle.
Renteria’s
at bat in the seventh was coated with the charm of the Red Sox faithful. I could hear a fan telling Edger to retire.
It was too much fun as the ran pelted down.
Smoltz
was dealing. He had no ill effect from
the injured pinky. Striking out Eric
Hinske moved Smoltz passed Mickey Lolich for 17th all time with 2833
career strikeouts. Next on the list is Phillies’
great Jim Bunning with 2855. Schilling and
Pedro sit at 14th and 15th all time.
Game #43, Assault on TB
Back to back home runs in a wild 6th inning reels
in a win for D-Train and the Marlins. Hermida
and Boone both hit jacks off Seo making it 6-1 Marlins at that point.
Before the 6th would end another run would score as Oliva crashes into fellow back stop Josh
Paul with his spikes up nipping him in the catching forearm.
D-Rays would answer back with a solo home run by Gomes as Willis would come out after 7 strong innings pitched. D-Train’s 6th win of the year would lower his era to 4.86. His line, 7IP 5H 2ER 3BB 7SO and gave up 2 home runs.
Around the Rest of the League in Saturday Afternoon Baseball
With heavy rains beating down on the roof of my apartment I
spent the afternoon watching the Braves in
Boston
and the Yankees play at Shea Stadium. I
couldn’t have picked two more sloppier games to watch as water over flowed from
my gutters and flooded my deck.
After pulling Lerew in the second frame Bobby Cox went on to
pitch 5 more arms in what should have been a much anticipated contest against
Daisuke Matsuzaka and the Boston Red Sox. The Braves would get to him late but it’ll go down as an after thought
as Boston’s 6th inning shelling lasted 26 minutes and their 7th
frame last another 25 minutes in which they touched home 9 times. After the Sox’ 51 minute assault Jeff
Francoeur smacked his 7th home run of the season.
In the day’s second game ugly was cranked to 11 on the dial
as the Yankees pitching woes would continue with yet another pitching
injury. This time the injury was to
Darrell Rasner’s fingers. He was taken
from the game, already giving up 2 runs and no outs in the first inning. Torre would march out Myers, Vizcaino,
Villone and Bruney for the first 7 innings.
And even as I write this the Yankees have rallied against
the Mets to trail by two runs with Jeter at the dish. Two out, two on, down by two and the
pitch…ground out to Wright.
Cano boots his 4th ball of the day. He literally boots it as the ball hits his
shoe upon throwing it to first.
I can’t wait to flip over to either the back end of the day
night games between Boston and that will feature John Smoltz’s first start since dislocating his pinky finger
on his pitching hand or Florida’s game against their state rival.
Either the rain or the pitching parade will stop I hope. Bad
baseball is still baseball.
